Wilderness adventure in Lake Inari 23rd July to 30th July 2010

link: virtual kayaking

On this trip you can experience a real wilderness. We will travel to the most remote area of Europe. No roads will be crossed during the whole week. Here you can paddle in crystal clear waters. You can also see the beautiful barren Northern Inari archipelago, the labyrinth of lakes in Vätsäri and many other unique places. Here you also have an opportunity to snorkel, eat fish caught in the trip and hike on mountains.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Day 1.
  • In the afternoon we will gather in Partakko -holiday village, which is a 90 min bus connection from Ivalo. To Ivalo you can get by plane or by night train (Rovaniemi) and bus.
  • For a start we have an information and preparation session. In the evening we paddle a short way to our first camp in Lake Inari.

Days 2 and 3
  • We will paddle to north: the open endless-like lake on the other side and a fascinating group of islands on the other side. The islands offer a good shelter from wind. During the kayaking days we will catch trout and grayling - maybe even arctic char - and cook them for extra meal. You can often see reindeer on the shore and, with good luck, even tracks of a bear when camping in the mainland. The third day we cross over a short distance (20 m)of dry land to another lake.
